Two currencies, one quote
In EUR/USD, EUR is the base currency and USD is the quote currency. The price expresses how many units of the quote currency equal one unit of the base currency. A rising quote means the base currency has strengthened relative to the quote currency.

Bid, ask and spread
Markets typically display bid and ask prices; the difference is the spread. Spreads can change with liquidity, market events and trading sessions. Commissions and other charges may also apply. Check which side of the quote is relevant to your transaction.
